Mr. Tee’s Mini Golf is definitely a tale of two cities, well, courses. Located on the south end of Long Beach Island in Beach Haven, Mr. Tee’s is made up of Pirates Bay and Victorian Gardens, two drastically different feels for one experience. .
We started out on Pirates Bay, which is probably one of the smallest and simplest courses we’ve played in a while. The course decorations were actually quite interesting and well taken care of, but the course itself was almost shockingly simple in its design, and extremely confusing in its layout. Several putts were just straight with minimal obstacles, including one hole that was less than 5 feet long. Again, we found the decor very well taken care of, including pirates skull, a shark suspended over a pond, and several skeletons, but it seemed like these had almost been plucked from a garage sale from a going out of business sale. In all honesty, if this side was the whole experience, it would have dropped much further down our ratings. We were almost ashamed that our winner scored 40 on this par 38 course.
Thankfully, we played Victorian Gardens next and that really left us with a positive spin. Gone was the gravel, stone, and pavement of Pirates Bay, replaced with beautiful bricks and colorful light features. Both courses did have good turf, but we sometimes feel that making the entire course concrete actually can cheapen the experience. Victorian Gardens plays just a touch harder, but it is nothing crazy. There are definitely more hills and slopes, as wells as more water features and just overall prettier scenery with more interesting holes. It feels very intentionally laid out with a good mix of designs. We were able to card a 42 here with par again being 38.
While we did manage to get two free games here, this probably wouldn’t be first on our list in LBI. The prices are very reasonable though, with it being $8 for 18 holes, and then just $2 more for 36. If you are just looking for the activity to take more time, might as well do all 36, but if you are looking for the more interesting game, make sure to stick to Victorian Gardens.
