Pleasant Valley is a great example of a course that doesn’t need to be too flashy or ridiculous to be a fun outing. In fact, some of the obstacles on this course we had never seen before, but that is what really gives Pleasant Valley it’s charm!
The course is very well kept with tons of interesting obstacles that aren’t really centered around any specific theme, but that doesn’t really matter here. There are a few objects that appear to be in better shape than others, but that just seems to be the seasonal wear and tear. Our favorites that you can see below included the traffic light, a railroad crossing, and mechanical cars with hamsters.
There were a few defects in the course that had to do with patching of the new turf, but it was only on one or two of the holes. Par on the course is a simple 44, and our winner came in right on par despite trying to blow his sizable lead on the last two holes. The course is $8/person before 6pm, after it goes up to $10/adult & $9/child, which is a bit steep given the other courses in the area, but not ridiculous. This course could easily fit right at home on the Ocean City Boardwalk.
An interesting tidbit resides after the last hole in a marker for former U.S President Grover Cleveland. The plaque refers to the structure where you check in as “The Old House” where Cleveland would spend some of his summers after he retired to Princeton. This is different than Cleveland’s birth home (located in Caldwell) or his mansion in Princeton, and while we couldn’t find any other supporting documentation about the house, it is a neat little piece of historical trivia!
