Right on the Berlin Turnpike, Safari Golf is an interesting mix of a park course and an adventure style course right off the main drag. There were some hits and misses of our visit, and it was certainly interesting playing this course after playing a very similar course in Cape Cod (Wild Animal Lagoon) just a few days earlier. But overall, this still looks to be a real quality family course.
The course is aptly named, as several animals dot the hills of the course. All animals looked to be in top condition and beautifully painted; some of our favorites included giraffes drinking from a stream, elephants frolicking in the pool, and a particularly angry looking rhino. However, while the animals are featured in the hole names, they are really integrated into the course in any meaningful way.
We will note that we played at this course the morning after a pretty big rain storm, so we were forgiving of some of the darker stains on the course that looked more recent and less like actual damage done to the course. Otherwise, despite mismatched greens across some holes, the course did seem to be in beautiful conditions despite rain the previous evening.
There aren’t really any major obstructions here; the course mostly relies on rocks and slopes, along with the natural hillside to make the course more challenging. While it does present as an interesting course, it isn’t necessarily challenging. The front 9 has a par of 18, and the course overall just has a par of 40. Our winner was able to finish just at par, and we think we could come back again and finish even better. We managed aces on 5 different holes, and still feel there were more opportunities out there.
Pricing for this course was $9.50/person, which seems to be right on target. A second game is only $1/off, but that wasn’t on the schedule for us when we played. Overall, this wasn’t our favorite course in the Connecticut Valley, but we still think it is definitely a high quality course, especially for families. The beautiful scenery is well worth the visit!
