Cape Escape is consistently ranked one of the best courses in Cape Cod, and it’s clear that the word is out. If you come almost any day during prime summer season, this course will easily have a dozen parties on it at once. Beware if you don’t like to wait, this course can get backed up very easily, and we’ve seen lines out the door during peak hours.
While the nautical theme of this course is remarkably similar to Bud’s Mini Golf about 20 minutes down the road, Cape Escape has been around almost twenty years longer. Cape Escape features a beautiful waterfall topped with a giant crab at least twenty feet long, fog machines, and several authentic fishing boats. A favorite for the kids is an authentic Japanese koi pond, where kids can feed the fish for free after a round of golf.
The course is very well structured, with each hole representing a town on the Cape. While the holes don’t have a tremendous amount of difficulty, they are each unique and offer different perspectives of the course. What we have always found exceptional about Cape Escape is the quality of the course. According to one news article, staff are all trained on how to properly replace the putting surface every other year (far more often than other courses) and this keeps the surface like new whenever we have come, although the concrete bricks have an unpredictable bounce. It’s also clear that the staff really care about the course; come early enough and you’ll see them cleaning off each hole, or mowing the grass, or even fixing an obstacle.
What keeps Cape Escape out of our top tier ranking is a bit of the difficulty but also the pricing. $12.50/adult and $11.50/child is a bit steep, especially for a cash only business (of which they make no mention of on their site). Par for the course was 49, which was maybe a little high but also felt like it was trying to be realistic, which we appreciated. Our winner came in with a 42, but everyone was under par to finish the game.
