Unfortunately, for the second year in a row, we were out of town for the O-Street Mini-Golf tournament at Tee Time, but returned just a week later to see where our scores would have stacked up.
Tee Time is probably exactly what you think of when you think “mini-golf”. It’s bright and colorful, with all the classic obstacles. With the tournament having just passed, all the obstacles had a brand new coat of paint and were in top condition, and the turf was brand new as well (although it may have not been totally adhered to the ground in some areas). The course is very much hand made, but in a little more of a polished way than that of Sandwich Mini Golf, for example. The 20-holes are squeezed into a one level, 5000 sq ft sliver of the Boardwalk, which can make it a little hard when it gets crowded, but the holes never seem ridiculously short, and it never gets the ridiculous crowds like on the main boardwalk area.
While some may characterize Tee Time as a “children’s course” (and they wouldn’t be wrong; in fact, we had avoided this course for years because of that thought!), there is a tremendous amount of work that goes into all the up keep this course requires, and it really shines when you take the time to look around. The murals on the walls are all impeccable, and the obstacles themselves are unique and interesting, from Lucy the Elephant to Fred Flintstone and Barney to the more classic windmills and dinosaurs. The holes are not the overly simplistic “hit-it-in-the-box-for-a-hole-in-one” kind that you will see at Golden Galleon (although there are at least 4 or 5 here), but every hole is a possible ace opportunity if you get the right bounce and play the right obstacle.
The 20-hole course is actually 19 plus a free game, so the 19 hole par is 44. We had a really solid front nine, with our leader carding a 15, but missing some putts down the stretch to clock in at a 37. The price is the thing that really draws people in, with a round clocking in at only $5/person. This classic course has stood the test of time for over 40 years, and is definitely a favorite for beginners and pros, young and old alike.
