We’ve made our way to Farmington Miniature Golf a few times when we have been in the neighbor, especially given that it seems to be within a pretty good hub of courses like Matterhorn Mini Golf and Riverfront Mini Golf. However, despite its more local and generic feel, Farmington has a few deficiencies that may steer a more experience player away.
We first heard about the course as part of their annual tournament, which is actually a fundraiser for the UConn Children’s Cancer Fund. While we haven’t been able to compete in it, it usually attracts some great golfers from the CT area.
Farmington is definitely a more simple course, more generic and probably more stereotypical and in line with what you think of when you think mini golf. The course is all entirely on one level, with very thin carpet and concrete walkways and sides. The course reminds us a bit of Holiday Hill in Cape Cod, but this doesn’t have as big a space or a large water feature. There are some unique holes and some novelty features, but it doesn’t have the wow factors some of the other courses in the area have.
Most of the flowers on the course seem to be in beautiful condition, and the concrete surrounds seem to be in good condition, if not a bit unpredictable. However, the carpet at most of the holes is clearly weather worn. Although there were no rips, it was unsightly to see the course almost stained black in certain areas. The course also has tee mats (not a fan) and there was plenty of tree debris littered throughout the course.
There are some other atmosphere things that we did like; the course requires no more than 3 people per group, which we love. The price is $8 before 6pm ($10 after 6pm), which is pretty good, although $10 does start to feel high for the quality. Par for the course is 48, which feels definitely accurate, but also definitely beatable. We managed to get two aces, and finished with a total of 43., but could definitely shave off a couple strokes. While we definitely will try to return for the tournament, we probably wouldn’t seek this course out as a must-play with so many other options in the area.
