Waters Edge was a real hit among our golfers when we took a trip to Lancaster over the Labor Day weekend. The course has some competition in Lancaster county, but it is definitely one we would be excited to visit again!
Waters Edge is actually two courses (although they don’t really mention this on their website), and has an interesting blend of your standard miniature golf with some of the park course atmosphere we’ve come to admire. The first course we played was the nature course, which is the one that seems to be the most popular given that it is easily accessible from the spot where you pay for your rounds. We are told the nature course is slightly more difficult, and we would agree with that. There aren’t a tremendous amount of obstacles, but the nature course does take you through the more wooded and shaded part of the course. The only real obstacle of note was a well placed grizzly bear, but otherwise the course relied on its contours and design to increase difficulty. The second course is the boat course, which has a more nautical or seaport theme. Although we weren’t able to snag any aces, there are definitely. more opportunities on the boats course. This course took you on the outer rim of the course property near their pond and covered bridge, along with a nod to the Amish bicycles.
Despite it being near the end of the summer season, it looks like that the course is in the middle of replacing its putting surface. None of the greens looked overly worn, and we didn’t see any obvious rips, but the newer greens did play a bit slower. There was also an odd smattering of metal cups on some holes, which immediately tipped us off to the partial restoration. The other odd thing about this course is they were playing deep cut Disney movie music (think Robin Hood or Newsies) , which we happened to enjoy, but it just was odd and a bit distracting.
Pricing was very reasonable, with adults at $10 and seniors at $8, and it was only $4/person to add on the second course. Definitely one of the best second-course discounts we’ve seen! As for the results, we managed a 47 on the nature course, compared to the par of 50. For the boats course, our winner came in at 48, just above the par of 47, although the 18th here is a free game hole that dictates your score. Overall, if you are planning to be in the Lancaster area, we would definitely recommend this course in your journey!
