Freddy Hill Farms 1440 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, PA 19446

OVERALL: B+
When we were researching Freddy Hill Farms, we were expecting maybe a smaller establishment with a modest course. But when we pulled up, we found the parking lot packed and a wealth of people gathered for ice cream, mini golf, golf lessons, the driving range, and batting cage practice. Needless to say, Freddy runs a landmark business in PA!
We eventually realized that, although there were plenty of people there for mini golf, thankfully a good chunk of the cars were for golf lessons, so we weren’t totally crowded. That being said, there were a few over zealous kids running around the course and breathing down our neck, but nothing that the establishment can do about that!
There are two courses located on the property, and probably one of the few places where the courses are actually totally separate from each other, as land certainly doesn’t seem to be a problem here. Our first course is called Waterfront Adventure, and featured some pretty beautiful water features, a gris mill, and several rustic buildings in beautiful condition. The water was a bit grimy in some places, but overall provided a nice atmosphere for the course. The course does have beautiful greenery, but it was a tad overgrown in parts where it would impede on our tee off or on our balls path.
We next played the Discover America course, and honestly, this one was a bit of a let down after the first course. This one is definitely more straightforward, if not the easier course. Several of the cups were cracked and even impeded shots. Some of the greens were showing signs of water damage, although no obvious signs of rips or tears. Also, the course theme is supposed to be landmarks in the United States. However, our rough count had about 16 of these landmarks as on the west coast, and at least four in Utah. Just something that probably you wouldn’t normally notice, but it seemed bizarre when we thought about it. However, the course still had interesting and unique hole designs, so it wasn’t a total loss. Both courses feature longer hole designs, but you can usually get a two if you have a moderately good tee shot.
Given this large fun center, we were pleasantly surprised that (having got there minutes before 5pm), we were able to pay only $6/person. Better yet, we were able to get the pre-5pm rate for both courses! It looks like most weekends and holidays (as well as post 5pm) the price goes up to $8/person, but that is still a great deal for two terrific courses!
As we mentioned, the Waterfront Adventure course played a little bit harder, and the par reflects that at 45 compared to the Discover America par at 42. Both of these felt appropriate and well thought out. Our winner at the Waterfront Adventure came up with a 41, but there were no aces by anyone on that course. On Discover America, however, we racked up three aces, and once again our winner came in at 41, just under par. Overall, these are two dynamite courses that we really didn’t expect much from, and it is now probably near the top of establishments we’ve visited in PA.
