Ocean City has a brand new miniature golf course, and we wanted to make it our first stop when we went down to the shore this spring. The course is now only the second Ocean City course to not be directly on the Boardwalk, and it actually is more separate from the main hub of activity is, which will have its pros and cons as we see how this course fairs is in the coming years.
The course is down the way on 34th Street and Asbury, well past the end of the Boardwalk. While it is right on the corner of an intersection, there wasn’t much traffic when we were there this spring, although that may change in a busy summer. The course looks fresh and new as you will see in our pictures, and really leans in to the ocean course idea. Unlike some of the “automatic aces” that plague Pirates of the Golden Galleon, this course more relies on a straight shot or a creative putt over slight elevation changes to secure an ace. That being said, aces were certainly to be had; we managed them on 5 holes, and had several near misses. Most of the holes are on the medium to shorter side, but there was a good variety of holds that made the course feel interesting.
Overall, the big drawback to this course is it’s $14 sticker price per person, which makes it Ocean City’s most expensive mini golf course. While this won’t price people who are already in the area, those familiar with the city know that there are much cheaper courses in the area. Pirates Island somewhat justifies it’s higher price with a multi-level course over a larger area, but the same can’t be said here.
The course was a par 41, and we all finished under par. The 18th hole was a free game hole, which none of us aced. Our winner carded a 36, securing an 18 on both the front and back 9. Overall, this course is definitely fun and we may go back if we have a discount or see that it is not crowded. However, we expect this course to be packed with kids during the summer, and the price tag makes that experience a bit harder to swallow.
