Our first stop in our Florida trip was Adventure Mini Golf, just south of West Palm Beach. We are sometimes apprehensive of courses with these generic names, but were really impressed with the unique layout and challenging holes this course had to offer. Despite playing at night (unusual for us, quite normal for others) and on very little sleep after arriving at 3am that morning, this course kept us challenged and interested all the way.
Adventure Mini Golf is actually made up of two courses, a North Course and a South Course. The South Course is supposedly more difficult, and with the ability to only play one course, we chose to take on the harder side. Interestingly enough, both courses have a par of 52, but the South course has more diversity in its pars.
Despite our initial apprenhension, we were immediately struck by the unique hole configurations and layout that this course offered. No two holes were the same, and there were very few “standard” mini golf holes. A couple had potential for a hole in one (we managed only one), but certainly no easy holes. However, we did seem to be a bit rusty, and did miss some shorter putts as well. The holes were medium to short in length, which is the only thing that decreased the difficulty. The course was immaculately maintained and exceptionally clean, with fresh turf and flowers as well as a stream winding through the course.
We only had a few quips with the course, which probably wouldn’t bother the more casual player. On several holes (five on the south course) there were two holes and it asked you to choose before teeing off. On some, it seemed like one was easier than the other, but it didn’t always seem necessary. We appreciate the added feature to make things interesting, but sometimes it feels unnecessary. The turf was remarkably new, so it had very little give, and the metal cups led to at least two rim outs. Par was 52, and our winners finished tied at 48.
We were able to make it back at the end of the trip to play the North course, or the easier side. This course was a bit less imaginative, with more straight putts, but still a par of 52. Unfortunately, we were stuck behind a group of 9 people for most of the round. As we discovered, it seems like most golf courses in our Florida travels don’t enforce a group limit, which gives it a ding in the atmosphere.
Overall, the uniqueness of the holes really won us over, despite us being very tired travelers. We made a plan to come back, and although were disappointed by the large group, still found the course enjoyable. 18 holes is $11/adult and $6/child. 36 holes is just $6 more per person.
