It is clear from some reviews online and just the vibe of the course that Springfield Golf Center has undergone some renovations or renewal in the past year or so. It’s a bit tricky for us because we can only review the course on the day we are there; we don’t know what they have planned for the future or what it looked like in the past. What we can say is the course looks to be on it’s way to revitalization, and that means it’s definitely worth a stop for those in the area.

At $5/person though, we’ve played far worse courses for a good amount more, so they certainly aren’t ripping you off here. The people there are very nice, and they have a nice branded scorecard, something that isn’t always the case for driving range courses. However, this place is much more than a driving range and mini golf. It also boasts a full 18-hole course, and 18-hole chip and putt, all of which were well attended on this beautiful summer day.

While it did look like the course turf had been repaired recently, some of the other features were decidedly lacking. There were smaller details, like small flags in metal cups, but there were also things like a large amount of standing water in the places were water should have been running. We also noticed that this course lack of water also was a detriment to gameplay as well, like the typical hole where you hit your ball in the stream to carry it to the hole did not have the water. There also seemed to be large clumps of mulch scattered throughout the course as well. While the course bills itself as a “Mayan” theme, it’s really just four pillars and one temple that give that theme. More could be done to really enhance the experience.

We had truly disastrous game again, missing some very easy puts. Our winner came in with a 53, but we feel like we can easily shave 5 or 6 strokes off of that. Par was an unimaginative 36, which is surprising given that their custom scorecard allows them to be more creative. Overall, the course does have promise, and it’s clear that there are improvements going on throughout the facility. Time will tell if the mini golf experience becomes a more prominent experience.
