Skull Island Adventure Golf is certainly not our typical “driving range” kind of mini-golf, but rather there just happens to be a driving range here. In addition, Skull Island consists of bumper carts, an arcade, and potentially other additions as well. Skull Island was built in 2002, replacing an old mini golf course that had been on the site (when the site was formally known as Bass River Sports World), and has become consistently one of the top rated mini golf courses on the Cape by all the magazines and reader polls.

This course was built by Castle Golf, who also built Bud’s Mini Golf in 2021, and is clearly a substantial 18-hole course. For reference, a usual 18-hole course may take up about 10,000-15,000 sq ft. Skull Island sits on over 32,000 square feet, of which 10,000 square are waterfalls and water features. The design elements of the entire complex are really fantastic, although it kind of mixes and confuses its theme, labeling it just “island” (similar to how Ken is just “beach”).

There are several large treehouses throughout the property, including one that actually houses a hole. You’ll enjoy the spacious atmosphere here as it is usually pretty crowded and holes have a tendency to back up at certain points. At the very least, it seems like the designers may have been aware of this because they create extra space at those “choke” holds. This design also has a very good switch between more difficult and simpler holes. We were surprised given the overall quality of the design and the course to see some slight rips and some patchy seem repair, so we will slightly dock the atmosphere rating for that.

Pricing for the course is $12/person, but you can find a coupon in almost any guide book for $2 off/person, making it a very reasonable $10/person. Par for the hole course is 44, and our winner was able to finish just on par in a very close round. If they really wanted to, they could increase the par a tad, but it’s not very necessary, as the challenging design and contour of the course really elevate it to a higher echelon.

Overall, this and Pirates Cove just down the block form a formidable one-two punch of mini-golf in Yarmouth on Route 28. While we can’t say these two are the highest rated in our Cape Cod trip, they are definitely must visits. However, be prepared to either come early or wait in a crowd on most days during the season.
