Medieval Fantasy has to be the standout of the shore because there was simply no other course like it when it was built originally built in 2009. This course is billed as indoor/outdoor in that it is fully covered but not totally enclosed on the second floor of a clothing store. Two enclosed rooms feature seven holes of immersive blacklight experience for this fantasy themed course of dragons and knights. You could argue that Haunted Golf has tried to emulate some of the experience down the boardwalk, but we much prefer the quality and service at Medieval Fantasy.

By being indoor/outdoor, you never feel totally overwhelmed by the blacklight, like we sometimes do at the Monster Mini Golf establishments. You also get a wonderful view of the beach at almost all of the outdoor holes, which really adds to our enjoyment. This Harris course suffers from the same brick gaps and metal cup ailments that their other courses do, but it is always in top condition, with the black light artwork being some of the best we have ever seen. It just goes to show you that, while Harris does have a base level course offering, they can also really jazz it up when they want to.

There are some ace opportunities on the course, but this is certainly not the same gimmick as Seaport Village or Golden Galleon. However, our one other drawback is that some of the obstacles or tracks to the hole seem to either make little sense, don’t work, or are totally hidden from view so you have no real idea where to hit it. We found this especially problematic in some of the black light rooms on our most recent trip, and these kind of defects are exacerbated by the fact that it is just naturally harder to see in those rooms. We’ve also noticed at least two or three holes where you hit it into a box, and there are multiple places the ball can come out, and you can not see where you hit it in the box. We’ve tried a few test shots to try and see if we can figure it out, but it seems odd and inconsistent. This removes an element of strategy and just makes things a bit too random.

At $9/adult and $8/senior or child, this course is a bit more expensive than some of the others on the Boardwalk, and as far as we can tell, doesn’t offer any of the coupons that other courses offer. We’ve had a doozy of a time trying to get under 40 on this course, but always seem to come up just short. Our last visit to OCNJ saw us play this course two times, and have the winner card a 40 each time, which is right on par. Overall, we would still put Medieval Fantasy in the top echelon of courses in Ocean City. Even if it isn’t the most challenging, it definitely is the most unique course in Ocean City, and always provides a great view!
