Boulder Falls is a slightly more expanded version of your classic Harris course, but it seems like the owners have put in some weird quirks that could easily affect play.
The course itself is very well taken care of, and the turf looks fresh. The water of the course was one of the highlights, flowing from a waterfall at the center of the course. It rarely plays into the game, except for the one standard water hole, and it isn’t the glowing blue you see online, but is still a pleasant addition.
There were two or three weird quirks at this course that affected our experience, but it wouldn’t avoid this course just because of that. There were two holes that had the possibility to go out into the water, and there was a small elevation change. Probably to avoid people going in to the water, they’ve put a metal yellow bar on the course that stops your ball in its tracks. It’s extremely difficult to play around it, and it could easily add a stroke to your game. Speaking of weird add-ons, they have put purple carpet at the beginning of each hole. This clearly wasn’t done by the builder because we can tell it’s just been added over the concrete. We aren’t sure if this is supposed to be where you start, but that would be a bad idea given that it is a totally different type of turf than the playing surface. Finally, the usual white rough of a Harris course is usually the same material as the green surface, but here, they have decided to go with a shag carpet type material that can really grab your ball. Honestly, this feature we kinda like because it makes the sand trap more of a “trap”, but we can see how it might be frustrating for some.
Overall, the course might be a tad expensive at $9.50/adult, but does have a steep senior discount at $6/senior, which we love. Although they have a generic score card and no par listed, we we able to finish up with a single ace and our winner at a 45. This course again is fairly standard, but played well. It wouldn’t be something we would seek out as a must see, and in all honesty, was one of the more forgetful ones on our trip to PA, but it was still a good visit.
